In an effort to bring relief to vulnerable families who have been impacted by the devastating effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, humanitarian organisation, Food For Life Africa distributed hot meals to the communities of Phoenix, Verulam and Tongaat recently.
The sumptuous meals were served at the Phoenix Millenium Market, Verulam Morning Market and Buffelsdraai. Food For Life Africa’s Vick Panday said the organisation was the fastest growing NGO distributing hot plant-based food in the African continent, reaching out to rural areas and CBDs. “We have struck partnership with other NGOs, churches, temples and community-based organisations to help with the distribution, reaching our target audience within an hour of the cooking. Our feed statistics have reached beyond our expectations, from 1 to 30 March, a total of 115 500 plates were distributed and to date 2 101 931 plates of food have been distributed since the start of the Covid-19 lockdown,” said Panday. Director of Food For Life Africa, Babu Sampath, said: “The second largest branch, Food For Life KwaDukuza branch in the north coast, distributed 20 500 plates in March and 46 500 warm meals in total since January. We are distributing food in the mode of goodness to increase the duration of life, purify our existence and give bodily and spiritual strength, good health, happiness and satisfaction. Our meals are nourishing, sweet, juicy and palatable for our school children and the community.”
PRO, Dr Krishna Prasad Rambarran said the purpose the food distributed by FFLA was to increase the duration of life, purify the mind and aid bodily strength. “Our feeds are accompanied by the transcendental sound vibrations of deliverance; Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, which immediately calms the mind, unites our people and promotes social cohesion,” added Dr Rambarran. Food For Life Africa has acquired a new drop-off station in Durban at Suite 5, 24 Somtseu Road, Durban adjacent to the Durban Hindu Temple.
