
A horror crash involving multiple vehicles on Paisley Road near Manchester Street in Jacobs, claimed the lives of four people and left scores injured on Wednesday afternoon.
Various emergency medical and rescue services rushed to the scene, where it was reported that there were deceased patients. PT Ambulance Service was one of the respondents and spokesperson, Trishen Govender said it was a horrific sight that met paramedics. “It was a multiple vehicle collision involving a bus, truck and about three vehicles. There were over 40 casualties on scene and various medical services were quick to respond and assist. Four people were assessed and found to have sustained fatal injuries. Paramedics worked with members of eThekwini Fire to aid the injured,” Govender added.
“One person was found to be severely entrapped in his vehicle and was stabilised in the vehicle while eThekwini Fire Department used the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic equipment to try and free the man,” ALS Medical Services spokesperson, Garrith Jamieson said. Netcare 911 media liaison officer, Shawn Herbst, said: “Patients who sustained minor to moderate injuries were stabilised on scene and were transported by various ambulance services to hospitals in the area.”
The circumstances surrounding the accident are unknown and will be subject to police investigation.
