A 38-year-old suspect has appeared in the Ezakheni Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder and attempted murder following a multi-disciplinary operation conducted by the Provincial Organised Crime Unit and assisted by Crime Intelligence and the Ulundi Public Order Police on 26 September.

The team was following up on intelligence about a wanted murder suspect after it was alleged that on 7 September 2019, Khumbulani Mazibuko, 35, was at Ezakheni when he was killed in a hail of bullets while exiting his vehicle.  The other occupants of the vehicle were not injured and Mazibuko was transported to hospital where he later died. One of the suspects was struck by the deceased’s vehicle and his rifle fell on the bonnet of the vehicle. A rifle with two magazines carrying 52 rounds of ammunition was recovered at the scene by police.  The suspect was arrested at the East Mine area in Vryheid and the Provincial Taxi Task Team is investigating the case.
