An amputee crashed his vehicle into his neighbour’s bakkie when he allegedly witnessed a gang of armed hijackers on his driveway but this did not deter the criminals who dragged him out of the vehicle and fled with his red Audi, on Thursday night, in Amaoti.
The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Verulam Operations Centre reported that they received a call from a resident reporting the hijacking. RUSA head, Prem Balram, said the caller explained that they heard a bang and upon investigating, discovered that their neighbour had collided into a bakkie during a hijacking.
“On arrival, reaction officers interviewed the victim who is an amputee. He stated that he noticed the suspects standing on his driveway as he returned to his property. He attempted to drive off when they produced firearms. The victim crashed into his neighbour’s Nissan NP 200 bakkie before the hijackers dragged him out of the vehicle and sped off in his car,” said Balram.
He added that Reaction Officers conducted an extensive search for the suspects however they remain at large
“Vehicle crimes are occurring frequently and suspects are ruthless in their mission to steal or hijack vehicles. Vehicle owners and drivers are urged to be on high alert and pay attention to their surroundings.
These criminals can be merciless and are prone to snuff out a life in their pursuit of criminal deeds,” added Balram.
