Food for Life, in partnership with the Merebank Residents’ Association (MRA), are distributing food to the community every Wednesday at Dibrugarh Road from 11.30am to 12.30pm.

Member of the MRA, Yusuf Vawda, is thankful to Food for Life for giving them the opportunity to partner with the organisation. “We are encouraging all residents to feel free and pick up meals that have been sponsored by Food for Life. The MRA would also like to thank the organisation for their ongoing contribution toward the community of Merebank,” he said.

Paul Pillay, Chairman of Food for Life Merebank, said that this is one of their 30 branches in South Africa. Food for Life provides a plate of hot food every two seconds.

Pillay said: “During the Covid pandemic, Food for Life served two million meals. Currently, we serve about 7 000 to 8 000 hot meals a week in the Durban area. We also have Garuda, a roaming kitchen which goes to different areas every Saturday. We cook on site and provide briyani, dhall, soji, juice, pickles and salad. The organisation also provides meals to school learners in Durban South and surrounding areas, every week.”
