The Tongaat Child and Family Welfare Society recently celebrated nine matriculants under its foster care, who together achieved an outstanding 11 distinctions.

Social work manager and general manager Jo Moodley said: “We proudly celebrate Akhona Msimanga, raised by her now 75-year-old grandmother from a young age. Akhona achieved six distinctions and has been accepted to study LLB (Law) at Wits University. Her inspiration has always been to make her grandmother proud. She calls Tongaat Child Welfare her second home and our social workers her earth angels.”

Her message to younger children, Moodley added, is simple but powerful: believe in yourself, work hard, and never give up—the sky is the limit.

“We congratulate all our matriculants and thank our foster parents for the love and hope they provide,” Moodley said.

She concluded with a quote from Nelson Mandela: “Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.”
