Foresthaven Sporting Club (FSC) will be hosting a fundraiser at Dance Cafe on Friday, 19 July, to support the team and their players.
The almost 40-year-old club from Phoenix, with seven different divisions and over 150 registered players, started off the SAFA Phoenix football season on a high note but is now turning its focus onto the cost of running the club.
The fundraiser will assist Foresthaven Sporting with the affiliation, administration, and registration costs for all their divisions. Krishen ‘Mams’ Sewkumar, Foresthaven Sporting Club chairperson, said: “Considering the financial difficulties faced by our players as well as the number of underprivileged children that we have at our club, we have been trying to reduce the cost implications of registration on the senior players. We also do not charge any junior players for playing football at Foresthaven Sporting, so we are trying to raise much-needed funds to pay our dues to the association with fundraisers like this.”
The club appealed for support from the community of Phoenix and surrounding areas in this endeavor.
“We have a group of strong executives that do their best to run a transparent and democratic organisation. Many of our junior players come from extremely underprivileged backgrounds and we do as much as possible to assist these players on the football field and at their homes. Our club generates funds through fundraisers and also puts together team-building exercises for all teams within the club to create a strong personal bond with teammates as well as create a happy family-type atmosphere for all the players. We are also proud founders of the Festive Dream Initiative which involves our players and the community. Grocery items from the hampers we put together were donated to underprivileged families who find it hard to celebrate the festive season due to a lack of funds and food to eat. This has been an exceptional initiative since its inception and we will continue to support our players and the community through this initiative in the future,” said Sewkumar.
He extended his gratitude to the entire Foresthaven Sporting executive team, the coaches, and extended family for all their support. “We encourage members of the community to come out in their numbers in support of our fundraising drive. Foresthaven Sporting Club promises a fun-filled night of dance and celebrations. We look forward to engaging with you soon,” added Sewkumar.
