It was a busy first week of Ramadaan for Westville-based non-profit organisation, Tiny Steps Care team as they distributed meals to underprivileged communities. The team managed to feed over 1000 people since the first fast which was on Wednesday, 14 April. This was excluding Ramadaan hampers and sweet treats for the children at two madressas.
Nazreen Sheik Hameed, founder of Tiny Steps Care team, said: “The feeding started on Wednesday with hamper distribution, plus 80 loaves of bread to the children’s homes we support in and around Durban.” The Ramadaan hampers, sweet treats and bread was received from the Al Ansaar Outreach Foundation and was sponsored to Tiny Steps to aid in the scheduled distributions. Sheik Hameed said the meals over the week consisted of chicken aknee with water, burger meals with drinks, steak sandwiches and chips, cold-drinks, milkshakes and dates.
“The beneficiaries also received a variety of fruit, haleem and naan, chicken buns from The Food Studio and two huge deghs of chicken aknee sponsored by Solly Manjra Catering. We aslo distributed just over 75 Ibadat relief packs which will aid in worship between two musjids in Welbedact and another in Bonela. The packs include: prayer books, water, dates and tasbeeh counters,” said Hameed. She thanked all the sponsors, individuals and businesses who contributed and all the volunteers who assisted in the distributions.
