Mystery surrounds the cold blooded execution of a 44-year-old Malawian national who was gunned down in the presence of his teenage son in Emasayithini, Amaoti, on Saturday evening.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) said they were called out to Rambo Khoza Road at approximately 7.57pm by a member of the public reporting the shooting. RUSA head, Prem Balram, said Reaction officers and RUSA Medics were immediately dispatched to the location provided and on arrival found the Verulam SAPS in attendance.
“Medics examined the victim and found that he was fatally injured. He had sustained gunshot wounds to his back, chest and leg. The deceased’s son, who is estimated to be between 15 and 17-years-old, informed RUSA members that four suspects opened fire on him and his dad without warning. He managed to flee, however, his father was gunned down. The deceased’s personal firearm was stolen by the suspects who fled on foot in an unknown direction,” said Balram.
He added that several spent 9mm cartridges were recovered on scene. “Brazen and cold-blooded killings are occurring frequently and community members are under siege while merciless killers unleash their wrath at free will. Police investigations will determine the circumstances surrounding the brutal murder,” said Balram.
