Fast-acting police net double murder suspect and three others in Ugu District

A swift relay of information and quick action from police officers led to the arrest of four armed men in the vicinity of the Umtentweni Toll Plaza, yesterday (Thursday).

According to police reports, detectives from the Ugu District Operational Command Centre acted on information about four armed men that were travelling in a vehicle from the north towards the South Coast. “The vehicle was spotted passing Scottburgh at a high speed. Police officials from the Umzinto and Port Shepstone K9 Unit were activated and joined the chase. A chase ensued and the suspects’ vehicle was pulled over near the Umtentweni Toll Plaza. A search was conducted which resulted in the recovery of two handguns and 32 rounds of ammunition,” said police spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele.

“All four suspects aged between 25 and 43-years-old were placed under arrest for   unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. The initial investigation conducted by police revealed that one of the suspects, aged 35, is wanted for a double murder case which was committed in the Eastern Cape during June 2021. The suspects’ vehicle was impounded for further investigation,” added Col Mbele. The suspects are expected to appear in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court today.
