The family of one of the men allegedly murdered by Wasim Kudoos say they are becoming increasingly frustrated by repeated postponements in the case, with the latest delay adding to their emotional and financial strain.
The matter briefly appeared in the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 13 July where it was postponed to Tuesday, 28 July for further proceedings.
Nompilo Gumbi, the mother of the children of the late Mzikayise Paulos Mabida, said every court appearance comes at a cost to the family.
“Every time I have to attend, I take a day off from work. I work menial jobs and this affects my pay. I do not understand why the accused is changing lawyers and if it is a delay tactic,” she said.

Kudoos, 33, remains in custody after previously being denied bail. The Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court found that he had failed to prove exceptional circumstances warranting his release.
The latest postponement follows an earlier court appearance during which Kudoos changed his legal representation. Advocate Ngcobo stood in for Mr Pillay, the attorney of record, who withdrew from the matter. It is understood that a new private attorney is expected to take over Kudoos’s defence.
The State has previously confirmed that investigations have been completed and that the matter has been referred for Regional Court proceedings.
Kudoos was arrested by Bayview police shortly after he allegedly shot and killed his gardener, Mzikayise Paulos Mabida, 54, in the driveway of his Fiona Street, Mobeni Heights home on 8 October 2025. About an hour earlier, he allegedly shot and killed barber Mahmudel Sajid, 38, at his salon in Summerfield Road, Bayview.

According to the State, the case against Kudoos includes ballistic evidence, video analysis and witness statements allegedly linking him to both murders.
The matter is expected to continue at the Durban Regional Court.
