Karate enthusiast, Jenna Padayachee, is full of joy as she was recently awarded an orange belt, the 7th Kyu, according to the Japanese Karate Association Grading requirements.

The JKA  Ladysmith Dojo conducted a grading event at the Ladysmith Scouts Hall on 13 April where all Covid-19 protocols were applied. “My excitement and joy from this level of achievement has been due to the consolidation of regular intensive training for the last four months.” Padayachee told The Ladysmith Herald that she had to “dig deeper” during the exhaustive and rigorous training. “Being a mother, running a home and working has its own challenges and adds to the pressures, but karate has taught me to calmly accept my challenges and chip away at them.”  Karate is not only about self-defence but also about self-discovery which provides a method to unleash the body and mind’s potential. “I train among other Karatekas (karate students) in the Ladysmith Dojo who are in different stages of their karate journey, where we all experience a dynamic energy when we train together, driving each other to reach for our personal best. I return home refreshed from this motivating therapy, ready for the next day’s challenges.” Padayachee is encouraging others to realise their inner strengths through this vibrant martial art  with Sensei Charles and the other students.
