The Rydalvale community grounds was abuzz with activity as the Checkrite Brand hosted over 100 kids from the communities of Phoenix, Mount Moriah and Mount Royal to a fun-filled children’s party on Sunday, 28 May.
The day also incorporated a special programme which marked the start of Child Protection Week by the Phoenix Child Welfare. The event was hailed a resounding success as the little ones were treated like royalty and lavished with party packs and treats as well as a variety of entertainment including a magic show, dances, music and endless fun and games.

The highlight of the day was the official cutting of the massive party cake. Various speakers from SAPS Phoenix and social workers from Phoenix Child Welfare also addressed the children on bullying, abuse and overall safety of children.
Speaking to the Phoenix Tabloid, Marketing HOD Hypercheck Group, Yvette Govender said: “Our partnership with Phoenix Child Welfare kid’s party was established over 20 years ago, under our previous Checkout Brand. Every child deserves an opportunity to feel loved, special and seen. When we look around today, we are seeing the future of our nation through the eyes of every child seated here, these children will one day be the very people who will shop at our stores and who will be employed within our stores. Our purpose will remain strong, to spread happiness and joy to our children from our surrounding communities whose families are our customers today. Children are at the heart of our community, and our communities are the backbone of our country.”
She thanked the management of the Phoenix Child Welfare for continuing this long standing relationship.
“We look forward to many more initiatives to support our communities. A special thanks to our many suppliers who have generously donated towards this event, we appreciate you. Our Checkrite Brand is one of the brands under the Hypercheck Group, whose mission is to create a brighter future for all. Checkrite currently has eleven stores in KwaZulu-Natal.
