EThekwini Pride is set to make a remarkable mark in history with the launch of its first annual celebration, a vibrant tribute to diversity, equality, and the visibility of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual and additional (LGBTQIA+) community.
Scheduled for Saturday, 14 June, this landmark event promises to be a breathtaking gathering of community members, allies, and advocates united to celebrate love, identity, and inclusion in all its glorious forms.

The first-ever eThekwini Pride aims to cultivate a safe and inviting atmosphere for LGBTQIA+ individuals, promoting awareness, acceptance, and robust advocacy.
Mantsha Budgie Khuzwayo, a member of the organising committee said: “Attendees can look forward to an action-packed day featuring a parade bursting with colour, electrifying live performances, and rich cultural showcases that together foster a sense of unity and emphasise the critical importance of equal rights for all. This Pride is more than just a celebration, it’s a powerful movement. We are uniting to elevate voices, educate communities, and pave the way for a future where everyone, irrespective of their sexual orientation or gender identity, can live freely and authentically.”
The festivities will kick-off with a week long programme of activities and community engagements building up to a spectacular Pride Parade winding through the heart of the city, filled with joyous supporters waving flags in a rainbow of colours.
This will be followed by an engaging festival, showcasing performances from local artists, inspiring keynote speeches from passionate activists, and various interactive community engagement activities. Attendees will also find a wealth of resources and support from organisations dedicated to advancing LGBTQIA+ rights. Demonstrating a powerful commitment to inclusivity and human rights, local government officials, businesses, and community groups have rallied behind this initiative, showing overwhelming support.
“EThekwini Pride is poised to attract hundreds of enthusiastic participants from across the province and beyond, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing fight for equality and acceptance. Everyone, regardless of their background, is warmly invited to take part in this historic event. Whether you choose to march in the parade, attend enlightening panel discussions, or simply show your solidarity, eThekwini Pride welcomes all to join in solidarity, celebrating love and support for one another,” Khuzwayo said.
