eThekwini Council has honoured former mayor Mxolisi Kaunda and Democratic Alliance councillor Maggie Johnson as the current five-year municipal term draws to a close.
Kaunda, who served as eThekwini mayor for two terms, was recognised during today’s council proceedings as councillors prepare for the Local Government Elections on 4 November.
He was succeeded by current Mayor Cllr Cyril Xaba, who has served in the position for the past two years.
Also recognised was DA councillor Maggie Johnson, who was honoured for 20 years of service on eThekwini Council.
Johnson will retire from council and will not contest the upcoming local government elections.
