The final eThekwini Council sitting of the current five-year term is under way, with councillors preparing to go into recess ahead of the Local Government Elections on 4 November.
The final day of Council proceedings will be 1 October.
eThekwini Speaker, Cllr Thabani Nyawose, urged councillors to use the recess to rest and recharge while reminding them to continue observing the Council’s behavioural policies and standards.

Nyawose congratulated the more than 220 councillors, ward committee members and traditional leaders who formed part of the municipality’s structures during the five-year term.
He said it was important to acknowledge that councillors had maintained what he described as a respectful and politically stable Council from the beginning of the term to its conclusion, despite the municipality losing more than 14 councillors during the period.
Nyawose thanked everyone who contributed to the functioning of Council and wished them well as the current term draws to a close.
