In efforts to empower women, instill purpose and increase positive change, the UMhlanga Women’s Association recently established the Green Goddess store. The store is situated in Park Square, uMhlanga.
Chairperson, Praneetha Aniruth, said: “The Green Goddess is a celebration of community, sustainability, and strength. It’s a space where second chances bloom—not just for items, but for people. The store empowers women in the community to create and manage their own small businesses through the resale of these donated items – the UmhlangaWA’s Business in a bag project. Additionally, with mentorship, support, and a collaborative network behind them, women are given the tools to build financial independence and develop valuable entrepreneurial skills.”
She added that at its core, the Green Goddess champions the resale of preloved items—from clothing and accessories to books and homeware. This simple, sustainable concept not only helps reduce environmental waste but also breathes new life into once-loved goods, promoting a culture of conscious consumerism, but its impact reaches far beyond the environment. Proceeds from the store go directly toward funding the Association’s various initiatives—most notably, the community kitchen that provides thousands of meals and support to those in need. Every purchase made at the store is a step toward feeding families, uplifting individuals, and keeping vital projects running.
The space will also double as a vibrant community hub— hosting regular workshops, skills-building sessions, and empowering courses. It’s a place where people can come together, share experiences, and leave inspired. Whether one is learning something new or simply connecting with like-minded individuals, the Green Goddess Store fosters a sense of belonging and hope.
