In commemoration of Child Protection Month, the Tongaat Child and Family Welfare Society has embarked on a vital initiative to empower and educate local learners through school awareness programmes aimed at promoting safety, well-being, and positive development.
As part of the campaign, Social Worker Nombulelo Mahlangu conducted an informative child protection and anti-bullying awareness session at Trubel Primary School in Tongaat.
Learners were educated on critical topics including child abuse, sexual abuse, physical abuse, substance abuse, bullying, and personal safety. The interactive session also focused on fostering positive life skills, building self-confidence, and highlighting the importance of regular school attendance. Through open discussions, learners were guided on how to recognise abuse, seek help, and confidently report concerns to trusted adults and professionals.

General Manager and Social Work Manager at Tongaat Child Welfare, Jo Moodley, said: “By educating children, we strengthen communities and help create safer environments where every child feels protected, valued, and heard.”
The society plans to roll out similar awareness campaigns to several other schools in the region throughout the month to ensure the message of child safety reaches as many youth as possible.
