The eMadlangeni Mayoral Outreach Programme kicked off its first meeting in Utrecht Town Hall and full of positive energy from the community. The purpose of the meeting was to reach out to the community and provide feedback on issues currently facing the municipality which include electricity, refuse collection, streetlights and the maintenance of roads and infrastructure.
This intervention is part of the Mayor’s programme to urgently address the following issues in wards 2 and 5 where the municipality renders electricity and refuse removal services:
– Old Electrical Infrastructure;
– Poor or no maintenance of transformers;
– Damaged electrical feeders;
– Illegal electrical connections;
– Non-functional streetlights;
– Non-approval of indigent register;
– Statements not being delivered;
– Slow or poor payment of rates and services;
– Regular breakdowns of refuse removal trucks and
– Poor enforcement of bylaws.
The Mayor has made commitments to ensure that all issues of the community are addressed and will be responded to promptly. Mayor Buthelezi also assured the residents that the municipality has formed a committee to address all these issues and have time frames for all to be improved in six to 12 months.
An online service will be introduced in the near future to make services more accessible to the community. This online service will include acquiring of statements and payment of accounts as well as purchases of electricity. The meetings will continue in White City, Khayalethu and Bensdorp whereafter they will proceed to all other wards.
