A four-year-old boy from Durban North is elated to be part of a video spreading the message of peace throughout the world. Liam Xander Joyce is representing South Africa in a video made by Hiroshima Peace Movement as a celebration of peace, the theme of the 2021 Olympic Games.
The Hiroshima Peace Movement recently gathered videos of children from all over the world, wishing peace in different languages. Hiroshima is recognised by people from around the world as a symbol of peace and hope. The video includes 107 clips of children saying the word ‘peace’ in various languages from 65 countries.
In the video, the Northlands Pre-Primary School learner, Joyce, is holding the South African flag and representing the country in the clip. Hiroshima is a modern city on Japan’s Honshu Island. It was largely destroyed by an atomic bomb during World War II. Today, Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park commemorates the 1 945 event. His great-grandmother, Marilyn Dwarika, said as the family they are excited about Joyce being part of spreading a global message on peace. “We are happy for him. He is a good boy with big ambitions. As the family we are proud to be a raising a young man that has started spreading a positive message at such a tender age. Seeing young children come together to spread the message of peace just warms my heart. We need peace in our world,” she said. Talking about how Liam got to be part of the video, Dwarika said his aunt read about it on the internet and encouraged his mother to enter him. The peace video, which is available on YouTube, had 2 400 views in just one week.
