Durban erupted in celebration on Wednesday as football supporters lined the streets to welcome home newly crowned Nedbank Cup champions Durban City F.C. following the club’s historic triumph.
The jubilant trophy parade, organised in partnership with the eThekwini Municipality, saw the coveted Nedbank Cup trophy travel from UKZN Howard College to the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium as fans packed sidewalks, waved club colours and sang in celebration of a moment many described as unforgettable.
The parade came just days after Durban City defeated TS Galaxy 2-1 in the Nedbank Cup final to secure the club’s first major trophy under the Durban City name.
Supporters turned out in massive numbers, creating a carnival atmosphere across the city as players displayed the trophy from an open-top bus while residents cheered from streets, balconies and vehicles.

The celebration highlighted the growing excitement around football in Durban, with many supporters praising the club for restoring pride in the city’s football scene. Chants echoed throughout the route as families, schoolchildren and football lovers joined in the festivities.
The eThekwini Municipality earlier confirmed the special champions parade, inviting residents to celebrate the team’s achievement and unity through sport.
Durban City’s remarkable cup run has become one of the biggest football stories in KwaZulu-Natal this year, with the club also receiving recognition from provincial leadership during a special gala event held earlier this week.
For many fans, Wednesday’s scenes symbolised more than just football success, they reflected a city united behind a team that has captured the imagination of Durban.
The Nedbank Cup victory also secured Durban City a place in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup, marking another major milestone in the club’s rise.
