Two suspected drug dealers are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Friday after police allegedly found them with drugs worth more than R700 000 and an unlicensed firearm in Mayville.

The suspects, aged 20 and 26, were arrested during an intelligence-led operation at a house in the Puntus area on Thursday night.

Police said the pair had been under surveillance since June after detectives uncovered information linking them to an alleged drug dealing operation in Overport and surrounding suburbs.

Members of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Organised Crime Unit, specialising in narcotics, obtained a search and seizure warrant after gathering enough information on the suspects.

During the search, police allegedly found an unlicensed firearm, 50 rounds of ammunition of different calibres, as well as mandrax, heroin and cocaine.

The drugs are estimated to have a street value of more than R700 000.

The suspects are expected to face charges including dealing in drugs and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the arrests followed an investigation into the alleged drug trade operating in the area.

The investigation is continuing.
