The hard work of the Star Retailers Foundation has paid off once again after the successful launch of their fourth ‘Dream Big Little Reader’ project, which saw the official opening of a newly refurbished resource centre for the learners of Brailsford Primary School on Friday, 4 November.
Project co-ordinator Keshina Hiralall, said: “Brailsford Primary is our fourth project in the Dream Big Little Reader campaign, which is part of the Star Retailers Foundation. The library was dormant for a long time and the Foundation came in and did a complete refurbishment.” The school library now boasts a total of 3400 books. “There is so much of joy and excitement that has been brought to the school today, the learners wishes and dreams have been fulfilled, thanks to our directors, Ravi and Serena Jagadasan,” said Hiralall. The director of Star Retailers Group and Star Retailers Foundation, Serena Jagadasan, who is committed to community upliftment together with her son Ariano, said “a world without books would be a boring, ignorant and uneducated place”. She said: “Reading enriches the mind and gets the imagination working. These books act as an important part of our lives and Star Retailers Foundation have managed to change the lives of the school with 3400 books in the new library at Brailsford Primary School. Let this library be a ray of sunshine to all learners.”
The revamp was greatly welcomed by the staff, learners and the principal of the school, Mr S Lalie, who said: “I am over the moon, I feel like a proud dad who just moved into a new home, that is now our new library, a pipe dream that is now a reality. The Star Retailers Foundation stepped in with a modern and ground breaking library that is a sight to behold. We at Brailsford Primary are indebted and highly appreciative to Serena Jagadasan and salute Spar for their generosity,” he added. The operations manager for Star Retailers Group, Anil Singh said the Foundation which consists of eight Spar stores that believe in giving back to the community. He said: “There is no better way than giving back by growing youngsters to be responsible adults. Learning starts at an early age where it develops mindsets for them to grow and make this world a better place.”
