After discovering that members of the public have been falsely claiming to represent the Durban North Community Policing Forum (CPF), the organisation has officially introduced identification cards for all registered members, effective Sunday, 1 March 2026.
According to the CPF’s Public Relations Officer, Darryl Oliver, previous attempts to reinstate official ID cards were hindered by cost constraints. Oliver said: “A donor has sponsored a card printing machine for us. These cards will ensure that the public knows they are dealing with legitimate CPF members and can gain comfort in the fact that they are vetted, registered and accountable to our Code of Conduct.”
The introduction of the ID cards forms part of a broader effort to strengthen transparency and protect residents from individuals misrepresenting themselves as members of the forum. In addition to the physical cards, the CPF has launched an online verification portal. Residents and law enforcement officials can confirm a member’s authenticity by entering either the individual’s ID number or surname.

Oliver emphasised that the portal was designed with privacy in mind and does not display any personal information beyond the member’s name. Members of the public can access the verification system at: http://www.dncpf.co.za/verify.
The CPF believes the new measures will enhance public trust, improve accountability, and ensure that community members can confidently engage with legitimate representatives of the organisation.
