Phoenix SAPS is investigating a case of double murder following the brutal murder of a couple who were killed in a targeted drive-by shooting incident in Clayfield on Thursday, 25 July.
Gareth Naidoo, KZN VIP spokesperson, said their members were alerted to the incident shortly after it occurred. Upon arrival, they determined that a silver/white Jetta 6 had followed the couple’s VW Polo into Ronnie’s complex.

“Occupants from the Jetta 6 then opened fire multiple times towards the vehicle fatally wounding a female while the male attempted to flee. He was also shot and killed a few meters away from the vehicle. KZN VIP Medics attended the scene and sadly nothing could be done to save their lives. Circumstances leading up to the shooting cannot be confirmed at this stage. All emergency services were in attendance,” said Naidoo.
Constable Carol Mntambo, Phoenix SAPS spokesperson, confirmed the investigation of two counts of murder related to the drive-by shooting. She said: “It is alleged that on Thursday, 25 July, at about 11.35am, police attended to a shooting complaint at Clayfield, Phoenix. Upon arrival at the scene, members found a 26-year-old Indian female in a white VW Polo with multiple gunshot wounds to the head and was not responsive. A 27-year-old Indian male was found lying in a pool of blood unresponsive on the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds to his head.”

Phoenix SAPS is appealing for information following the tragic shooting of the couple and has urged witnesses to come forward. “Phoenix SAPS is seeking assistance from the public for any information that could help identify the suspects.
