A pensioner commuter was tragically killed when a taxi and two other vehicles collided on the corner of Anton Lembede Street and Dorothy Nyembe Street in the Durban Central Business District (CBD), on Saturday morning.

Paramedics arrived on the scene to find chaos amidst the collision where the taxi passenger was ejected and two vehicles left the roadway.

ALS Paramedics responded to the carnage and spokesperson, Garrith Jamieson, said a quick triage was conducted on the scene.

“Paramedics found that a male believed to be in his sixties had been ejected from the taxi and unfortunately, sustained fatal injuries. There was nothing paramedics could do for him and he was declared deceased on the scene. Two other people had sustained moderate injuries and were stabilised on the scene by Advanced Life Support Paramedics before being transported to nearby hospitals for the further care that they required,” Jamieson added.

He said SAPS officers were in attendance and will be investigating further.
