UShaka Marine World marked an impactful World AIDS Day on Friday, 28 November, joining forces with the SAPS Point Social Crime Unit and the Cato Manor Masibambisane HIV/AIDS Centre to support the global campaign and the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children.
The gathering, attended by staff, community members and activists, centred on this year’s theme, “Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response.” It served as a powerful reminder of the ongoing need for unity, awareness and action amid the social and health challenges faced by many.
The event honoured those who have lost their lives to the epidemic, celebrated the resilience of survivors and acknowledged the champions who continue to work on the frontlines of awareness, prevention and care. Participants lit candles, shared messages of hope and pledged to protect vulnerable groups, particularly women and children.
For uShaka Marine World and its partners, the commemoration stood as a testament to collective responsibility and a renewed call to ensure that every story is heard, every life is valued and no one is left behind.

As one of Durban’s most recognised tourism and entertainment destinations, uShaka Marine World remains committed to fostering a safe, informed and supportive environment for both staff and the communities it serves. Observing World AIDS Day reflects the organisation’s dedication to building a healthier and more compassionate society.
This annual observance aligns with uShaka’s values by promoting health awareness among staff, visitors and surrounding communities, while encouraging open dialogue around HIV/AIDS prevention, testing, treatment and support. It also reinforces the organisation’s commitment to reducing stigma, supporting national efforts to combat gender-based violence and strengthening partnerships with organisations that serve vulnerable groups.
