Chatsworth Police are investigating a deeply disturbing case after two children, aged five and 12, were found murdered in Welbedacht East on Saturday, 27 September.

Captain Cheryl Pillay, Chatsworth SAPS communications officer said: “It is alleged that the children were in the care of their aunt, who had left them with her son before leaving for work. When she returned home that evening, she discovered that both children were missing. Following a frantic search, the family made the harrowing discovery—the two children were found unresponsive under a bed.”

During the early hours of Sunday morning, 28 September, police arrested the aunt’s son, an 18-year-old suspect, in whose care the children had been left.

The accused is expected to appear in the Chatsworth Magistrates’ Court shortly on two counts of murder.

Station Commander Brigadier Ruth De Villiers expressed her shock and sadness at the tragedy.

She said: “I am saddened by this callous and violent act against two children.”
Police are appealing to society to have compassion and empathy in protecting children who are vulnerable and defenceless. Police will ensure that they leave no stone unturned to ensure that violent criminals are placed in Correctional Facilities away from society.
