The Pinetown Community Policing Forum, security companies, Metro Police and SAPS partnered in an effort to raise awareness on cybercrime and digital fraud. The awareness campaign was held at Pinetown CBD on Friday, 22 October.

Travelling in convoy, the various authorities handed out flyers and engaged with the public, explaining the purpose of the awareness drive. Crowds were addressed at the Department of Labour, the Post Office and in the busy Pinetown taxi rank, where a mobile stage was set up for representatives to address the public. The message that cybercrime is real and can affect anyone who is not vigilant in the safekeeping of passwords, bank cards, cellphones and even online interactions was well conveyed and received.

Fidelity ADT head of marketing and communications, Charnel Hatting, said they were proud to be part of this awareness campaign.

“Our officers, managers from our guarding, armed response, community development and specialised intervention unit were all pleased to have been involved in educating the community on the importance of remaining vigilant at all times. This initiative gave all of us the opportunity to reinforce our unity in the fight against crime and to show our support towards the authorities and the community,” she said.
