Food for Life Africa joined by various non-profit organisations and residents from various communities, held a rice drive which saw hundreds of people bring in approximately three tons of rice, in an effort to bring relief to local communities on Friday, 24 September.
In 2020, the late humanitarian, Theasen Pillay, made a humble appeal for the donation of rice – a month later, 11 tons of rice were collected and delivered to Food for Life Africa (FFLA), which is one of the largest growing NGOs in the distribution of hot plant-based food in the African continent, reaching out to thousands of people in rural areas and CBDs daily. The initiative began with a motorcade from uMhlanga Rocks and ended at the River Range Ranch.
The day incorporated Heritage Day celebrations where guests were greeted with a light brunch, live DJ, music by the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra, and a variety of entertainment such as jumping castles and mountain biking. The rice collected will go towards Food for Life Africa’s daily feeding initiative which provides nutritious meals for indigent communities. Food for Life Africa’s state-of-the-art kitchen serves 10 000 meals a day, with their sole goal being to eradicate hunger. Food for Life Africa thanked each and every one who played an integral part towards the success of the rice drive.
