A brazen gang of armed suspects masquerading as shoppers entered a jewellery store inside the Cornubia Mall on Sunday, held staff at gunpoint, and fled with an undisclosed amount of high-value items.
The KZN VIP Control Centre was alerted to the armed robbery in progress via social media platforms.
Spokesperson Gareth Naidoo said KZN VIP tactical response units and medical teams were immediately dispatched to the scene.
“Upon arrival, our tactical team made contact with the traumatised store staff, who reported that approximately eight armed male suspects, posing as shoppers and carrying shopping bags, entered the store,” said Naidoo.
“The suspects forced staff members into a corner at gunpoint before smashing glass cabinets and removing an unknown quantity of high-value jewellery.
“The suspects fled the scene in a white Toyota Starlet with registration MM05XT GP. Thankfully, no physical injuries were reported; however, staff were left highly traumatised. They were assessed by KZN VIP medical teams on-site,” Naidoo added.
A police investigation is underway as authorities search for the suspects.
