Boxer opened its doors to Phoenix shoppers for the first time on Friday morning and there could not have been a better reception for the discount supermarket.
Based in the Phoenix Plaza, Boxer’s opening, on 5 August, saw hundreds of interested, curious and excited visitors descend on the plaza to see for themselves what was behind the excitement and buzz felt across Phoenix. The grand opening was marked with a ribbon cutting ceremony as customers awaited for the store to be officially opened at 7am.
Speaking to the Phoenix Tabloid, Selvan Moodley, a customer from Stanmore, said he was very excited about the new Boxer store at the Phoenix Plaza. He said: “I am looking forward to affordable and good quality groceries from this store and from what I can see, we are being given just that. I will definitely be coming back again soon.”
Another Phoenix resident, said: “We’ve been hearing about the savings and service at Boxer, and we came here to find out for ourselves.
Head of marketing at Phoenix Boxer, Lee-Ann Pillay, said the staff and management of Boxer were enthusiastic for the grand opening and that it was a long time coming.
She said: “Customers have been asking for a Boxer store to be opened in Phoenix so we are extremely excited to be providing this to them. We are excited to bring our low prices, combos and our discount module philosophy to the people of Phoenix. Customers can look forward to an exciting customer experience with a wide range of fruit and veg, as well as our bakery and deli.”
The store was filled to capacity as customers were sanitised and allowed to go inside to buy their monthly groceries, with the help of friendly staff at Boxer Phoenix. Boxer Phoenix Plaza store manager, Rowen Dhanesar said: “We have been looking forward to this opening for a long time.”
He added: “On Friday, 5 August, we were greeted by song and dance and lots of smiles. It’s good to finally be open, to be here and to be serving Phoenix.”
