
Welbedacht East was set abuzz on Wednesday, 17 March, when the news of a body found in a nearby river fast-spread throughout the community.
According to reports on social media, which have been confirmed by Chatsworth SAPS, the body was found floating in the river bordering Welbedacht East and uMlazi townships. It is believed that the man had committed suicide.
Captain Cheryl Pillay, communications officer at Chatsworth SAPS, said an inquest docket has been opened. “Chatsworth police are investigating an inquest docket following a body that was discovered in the river bordering Welbedacht East and uMlazi. On 17 March, the body of a 41-year-old African male was retrieved by members of SAPS KZN Search and Rescue. It is alleged that the deceased had committed suicide by drowning.”
Pillay also confirmed that police retrieved a suicide note at the scene of crime.
