Doctors confirmed last week that two-year-old Aariya Sewnarain is in recovery, now able to digest small meals and slowly walking again.
The Montford toddler was critically injured after allegedly falling from the balcony of Honey Bunch Day Care in Arena Park.

Mother Shivana Sewnarain said: “We are happy to announce that our baby is recovering. We request that everyone continues to keep her in their prayers, as we have a long road ahead of us. She’s our warrior princess, and her strength and resilience are truly amazing.
“The community has really been our backbone. We are grateful to everyone for the love, support, and all the prayers we have received for our baby girl. It’s only through those prayers that our princess has made it through such a traumatic incident and is healing. Special thanks and appreciation go to the doctors and nurses who assisted us at RK Khan Hospital and Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital.”
Communications officer of SAPS Chatsworth, Captain Cheryl Pillay, said: “SAPS Chatsworth is aware of the incident involving a two-year-old child who allegedly fell off the balcony at a crèche in Arena Park, Chatsworth. The management at the police station has expedited this inquiry to establish if a crime was committed. Should it deem necessary, the police will act accordingly. The management has offered support to the parents, and we will continue to keep the baby in prayer.”
The chairperson of the spiritual crime prevention forum, Reverend Cyril Pillay, said: “As the forum, we are upholding the family in prayer. May God’s healing hands be upon the child. We will continue to offer support to the family during this difficult time.”
The owner of Honey Bunch Day Care, Rajesh Dhoodnath, declined to comment.
