Volunteers braving the kennels

Ten amazing animal lovers braved the cold and lonely SPCA kennels for an entire evening on Saturday, 20 August, in a bid to raise awareness and much needed funds to help the thousands of animals that pass through the doors of the Durban and Coast SPCA.

According to SPCA marketing manager, Tanya Fleischer, the plight of the nearly 13 000 animals that the SPCA receives annually is devastating to see and through the support of their volunteers over R52 000 was raised, making the event a super success.

“The event exceeded our expectations, the sleep over guests went above and beyond to make this event a success. There was excitement in the air and the atmosphere was incredibly festive. Thank you to our sleep over guests: Nikita Mahadeo, Senta Seele, Delisha Pillay, Maishen Naidoo, Sue St Ledger, Josette Nelson, Alida van Wyk, Tilanie Grote, Lokesha Rampersad and Marina de Kock, these ten amazing guests raised over R52 000 in donations to our SPCA,” said Fleischer.

The air was abuzz with excitement as prizes were given out to guests who competed for them. Some of the categories were an obstacle course, a howling competition, best social media presence, best decorated kennel and most raised funds.

“We will definitely host this event again! Our next event is our monthly Zumba class, the last Thursday of every month from August to November at our SPCA for R70 from 4.30pm-to 5.15pm, our next big event currently scheduled is a golf day on 18 November, check our socials for more details coming soon,” added Fleischer.

The SPCA would also like to extend their gratitude to their sponsors that helped making the event a success.  To keep up to date with the SPCA, follow them on Facebook @SPCADurban.
