An elderly man has died and two people, including his wife, were injured following a house fire in Road 743, Montford, on Friday morning.
Amawele Emergency Services was called to the scene following reports that people were trapped inside the burning residence.
Multiple emergency units were dispatched, where medics found two elderly occupants, a man and woman believed to be in their 60s or 70s, affected by the fire.
The woman reportedly jumped about five metres from an upstairs window in an attempt to escape the flames.
The male occupant was found deceased inside a bedroom and was declared dead at the scene.
A neighbour was also injured while attempting to assist the couple from the burning house.
Amawele medics treated and stabilised the two injured patients before they were transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care.
Emergency services involved in the response included Amawele Emergency Services, Chatsworth Fire Department, SAPS, Metro Police and Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS).
The circumstances surrounding the fire are not yet known.
Amawele Emergency Services extended its condolences to the bereaved family.
