Nineteen school learners sustained minor injuries on Thursday afternoon, 21 May, after a scholar transport vehicle overturned following a collision in the Canelands area.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Vincent Dickens Road and New Glasgow Road.
Private security and emergency medical service provider Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) responded to the scene after receiving multiple emergency calls from motorists and witnesses.
Upon arrival, first responders found a Toyota Hiace scholar transport minibus lying on its side across the roadway.
According to Rusa spokesperson Prem Balram, the vehicle allegedly collided with a delivery truck before overturning.

“According to witnesses, the scholar transport vehicle collided with a delivery truck before overturning,” said Balram.
A total of 21 learners, aged between five and 15 years old and ranging from Grades 2 to 10, were travelling in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Balram confirmed that 19 learners sustained minor injuries.
“19 pupils sustained minor injuries to their hands while several others complained of body pain,” he said.
Emergency personnel established a triage area at the scene while authorities temporarily cordoned off the intersection, causing traffic disruptions in the area.
The injured learners were stabilised and treated on scene before being transported to nearby medical facilities for further assessment and care.
Local law enforcement officials have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
