Motivated by pushing human limits and testing discipline, the Fieldshill Water Athletic Club (FHWAC) recently completed 40 000km of travel within the last year. The distance is equivalent to walking the circumference of the Earth.

Under the 2025/2026 Athletics Development Around the World Club Challenge, and further motivated by other global initiatives such as Discovery’s ‘Journey to the Moon’, the FHWAC Management Team wanted to bring that same sense of wonder and monumental scale to a local level. Under the guidance of Chairman Vikesh Parshad, Deputy Chairman Sagren Naidoo, and a dedicated Management Club Committee Team, the ‘Around the World Club Challenge’ was born. From 1 June 2025 to 31 May 2026, the club turned this bold vision into a reality, proving that when a community moves together, no horizon is too distant. By the end of March, the club had achieved 43 548km – 2 months before their projected end date.

Parshad said: “The goal was simple yet staggering – to log enough collective mileage to circle the globe in exactly 12 months or less. This just wasn’t about logging kilometres, it was about discovering the strength within. We wanted our members to embrace dedication and discipline, proving that consistency is the key to achieving the impossible.”

Parshad said the challenge was built on three core pillars that transformed the lives of those involved. Discipline and perseverance, physical wellbeing, and strengthening bonds. On behalf of the club, he added: “Every participant who contributed to the 40 000km total will be recognised with sponsored shirts, medals, and certificates at a grand celebratory function after May 2026. The event will serve as a finish line for the challenge, but a starting line for a more active, connected community.” He thanked everyone for contributing towards the challenge and encouraged them to continue for the remaining 2 months.
