Majuba TVET College is celebrating the unique successes of two of its recently qualified students, one of whom has overcome unusual circumstances to reach this career milestone, and the other earning an opportunity to intern overseas.
From the dusty streets of Osizweni, Newcastle, 37-year-old Sindi Dladla started her career as a security guard at Majuba TVET College’s Newcastle Training Centre (NTC) Campus, progressing to become a qualified rigger artisan, in a story of resilience, ambition, and determination.
Marketing manager at Majuba TVET College, Nashveer Nemesar, said: “Her transformation is a testament to the power of education and the opportunities provided by technical and vocational training. Being the fourth out of five kids, while working at the college, she was exposed to various technical fields and training programs. Inspired by the success of students passing through the institution, she decided to take a bold step towards changing her life. She enrolled in the Rigger programme at Majuba TVET College, determined to master the trade.”
Balancing work and studies was no easy task. Dladla faced financial struggles, long hours, and the challenge of adapting to a new learning environment. Despite these obstacles, her passion and perseverance kept her going. With the support of her lecturers, classmates, and mentors, she successfully completed her training and obtained her qualification as a rigger artisan.
Nemesar said: “Today, Sindi Dladla stands as a qualified Rigger Artisan, proving that hard work and dedication can lead to incredible transformations. Her journey from being a security guard to a skilled artisan is a remarkable example of personal growth and perseverance. Her success highlights the importance of education in empowering individuals with practical skills that open doors to better opportunities. Through her story, she is a testament to a perspective held by many, that it is never too late to learn. Her story serves as an inspiration to many young people, especially those who may feel limited by their current circumstances. She has shown that with determination and access to quality education, anyone can rise above their challenges and achieve success. She encourages others to take advantage of educational opportunities and believe in their ability to create a brighter future.”
In another proud moment for Majuba TVET College, one of its Farming Management students, who recently completed their N6 qualification, has been selected for a prestigious 12-month internship programme in the United States.
Senzo Nhlakanipho Nxumalo, a 27-year-old from Glencoe, who studied Farming Management at the Open Learning Unit (OLU), will be joining LB Pork Inc., a leading piggery operation based in Minnesota, where he will gain hands-on experience and expand his knowledge of international farming practices.
This opportunity not only marks a significant milestone in the student’s career but also highlights the global doors that vocational training can open. Majuba TVET College has generously sponsored the student with an allowance.
