A Phoenix family is calling for answers after a 42-year-old, mother of two succumbed to her injuries on the way to hospital following a tragic accident, along Northern Drive and Lenham intersection, on Thursday, 19 May.
Nirvashni Mahadeo, 43, who worked in DTR Engineering for almost two decades, was impacted drastically at the time of the accident and succumbed to her injuries before reaching the Mahatma Gandhi Hospital. Her eldest daughter, Kareena Mahadeo, 20, who last spoke to her mother on the night before the accident, said she is still coming to terms with the tragic passing of her beloved mother.
She said: “My mother was a very caring, loving and bubbly person who was loved by all. It was a typical morning for us, it was as if my mother had left for work until KZN VIP came our home and gave us the message, but we refused to believe them at first. My mother usually travels with my father and myself when I go to campus, however, on the day of the accident I was not going to campus and my mother had to take her lift club for the day. I could never have imagined that something like this would have taken place. We cannot express the pain of losing a person like my mother.”
Kareena said her mother was seated behind the passenger seat when the accident occurred, causing her to get impacted the most. “We are not sure how the accident took place but it is extremely sad to know we have now lost a beautiful person. My mother was conscious on the way to the hospital and was able give out our contact details and home address. She sadly passed away before reaching the hospital at 6.40am,” said Kareena.
The family is hoping for residents who were at the scene to help bring closure regarding the accident and what took place. Nirvashni Mahadeo leaves behind her mother, Rehana Harilal, husband Sanjay Mahadeo, son Keeran Mahadeo and daughter Kareena Mahadeo.
KZN VIP spokesperson, Gareth Naidoo, said their members responded to the accident scene along Northern Drive and Lenham intersection.
He said: “KZN VIP Medics responded to the scene where one patient was entrapped in the wreckage and required fire department to assist with the extraction of the patient. The cause of the collision cannot be confirmed at this stage, all patients were treated and rushed to hospital. A female succumbed to her injuries.”
