Police seized two firearms and ammunition in Southbury Avenue

Two men have been arrested for being in possession of unlicensed firearms and appeared in court while two firearms and ammunition were seized by police officers in Phoenix, on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele, said on Tuesday, 22 February, police officers from Phoenix received information of a person in possession of an illegal firearm. She said the team then proceeded to Southbury in Phoenix where they stopped a vehicle. “Upon searching the vehicle, they found a 9mm pistol with 36 rounds of ammunition. The 46-year-old suspect was asked for the license of the firearm and produced a license which did not belong to him. He was placed under arrest and detained for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.” In a separate incident, the police team received information of another unlicensed firearm on the same road and made a second arrest. “On stopping and searching a vehicle, they found another 9mm pistol with 37 live rounds of ammunition.  A 22-year-old male was arrested for unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition,” Col Mbele said.
