Durban’s karate legend, Sonny Pillay, 71, was recently elected vice-president if the All Africa Karate Federation UFAK. Pillay is presently Karate South Africa’s president.

The “all styles” karate head is one of four UFAK vice-presidents. His election victory ensured South African karate legend Pillay becomes a member of the UFAK presidents’ executive bureau, in addition to becoming a member of the executive committee. The meeting was concluded at the recent All Africa Karate Congress 2021 in Cairo, Egypt.

“I am deeply humbled by the election victory, more importantly I consider this a victory for Karate South Africa and our African region as a whole, given that my being elected ensures we now have a voice on the All Africa Executive Karate platform,” said Pillay.

“I promise to honour and to serve the karate fraternity of Africa with my firm focus being on development throughout the continent,” said the seasoned Pillay, who is in his 54th year of his karate career.

Karate South Africa is a proud member of the UFAK All Africa Karate Federation which is the official governing body for all karate in the African continent, recognised by ANOCA and the IOC at large.

“KSA is expected in the near future to host the All Africa UFAK Championships on our Indian ocean shores in the kingdom of KZN,” said Pillay.

Pillay is a son of the KZN soil.
