The Woman.com team recently hosted a fun-filled and jam-packed Christmas function while distributing hampers.

At the function, the women in attendance were treated to live entertainment and exciting games including a dance competition where the ladies showed off their moves to the hit song ‘Desi Girl’. Woman.com is a registered non-profit organisation aiming to protect and rehabilitate women and children who are victims of abuse and gender-based violence.

Director of the NPO, Claudette Andrew, said: “The journey to establishing Woman.Com began in 2019. I saw a need to empower, educate and motivate women. Many women in our community are silent sufferers of abuse and neglect. Many do not have resources to build themselves up. This stirred up desperation within me to stand up and do something. That’s how Woman.com came to being.”

The organisation provides free skills development programmes, counselling, group discussions pertaining to relevant topics in the community, hamper drives for the needy and have even adopted a home for the elderly – the Thokoza Care Centre. Andrew said that the most impactful way people can support Woman.com is by partnering with them in terms of sponsorships. “We are a registered NPO but not funded. We are thankful to those who contribute towards our projects but we are still in need of funds and resources,” she said.

At the Christmas function, women from different walks of life in different communities came together as representatives of Woman.com. They were grateful to see another year despite the challenges imposed by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and were grateful for the organisation’s assistance and constant motivation in uplifting women. “It truly was a spectacular function and we were graced with showers of blessings as well. Thank you to all our sponsors and partners and we hope to reach more women and children in the next year,” Andrew said.
