A reaction officer escaped with his life and sustained a bullet wound to his leg in a gun-battle with robbery suspects at a service station on South Coast Road, in Clairwood, on Monday.
Spokesperson for ET Rapid Response, Tony Lokker, said armed response units were dispatched immediately to the scene when a panic activation was received. He said upon arrival, one of their first response officers was met by a hail of gunfire as six suspects were busy robbing the store. “Our response officer managed to retreat for cover from his vehicle and the suspects started fleeing whilst firing shots. They sped off in a silver Toyota Corolla. Our member unfortunately sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. Paramedics responded to the scene and treated our member for his injuries. He was transported to hospital for further care in a stable condition.”
Reaction officer, Malusi, underwent surgery and the bullet was successfully removed. Lokker said: “He will regain the full use of his leg once healed. Thank you to PT Alarms medics, Emer-G-Med, Netcare911, Blue Security, Security Force, SAPS and Metro Police K9 for the response and assistance.”
