Highflats SAPS are investigating an inquest after the body of a 15-year-old girl, who was kidnapped in 2019, was found in a closed-off school pit toilet on Tuesday.
According to KwaZulu-Natal SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele, murder accused Njabulo Ndlovu, 28, pointed out where the body was located to the police. This after police tracked him down to where he was hiding in Pietermaritzburg.
She said: “On 19 October, Greenwood Park Detectives received information about a wanted suspect who was hiding in Pietermaritzburg. The team proceeded to an informal settlement in Panorama where a 28-year-old suspect was found asleep with his girlfriend. He was placed under arrest.” Col Mbele said on Wednesday afternoon, the team of detectives proceeded to the Mkhunya area in Highflats where the suspect pointed out where he buried the body of a 15-year-old girl he was last seen with.
“The human remains suspected to be that of the kidnapped girl were found in a school pit toilet in the Highflats area. The school has been closed for over two years. The body was recovered with the assistance of the Port Shepstone Search and Rescue Unit and Durban K9 Unit.” Ndlovu appeared before the Durban Magistrate’s Court after a warrant for his arrest was issued by the court following the murder of his step-aunt, Ntombifuthi Regina Chivambu, 46, on Granite Avenue in Avoca Hills, on 5 January 2020.
According to Col Mbele, the deceased was found strangled and a towel was put in her mouth. “It was established that a vehicle that was parked at the premises was also missing. Charges of murder and theft of motor vehicle were opened for investigation at Greenwood Park SAPS,” Col Mbele said.
At the time, Ndlovu was also sought for the case of kidnapping that was opened at Highflats SAPS and was being investigated by the Port Shepstone FCS Unit where it was alleged that the same suspect kidnapped a 15-year-old during December 2019.
