The residents of Ashvale Close in Rydalvale, Phoenix, are ecstatic over the installation of a new power cable.
Speaking to The Phoenix Tabloid, Brandon Chetty of Ashvale, Rydalvale, said: “I moved into Ashvale in September last year, not knowing there was an issue with the power line. In November, I started experiencing issues where we had no lights every second day. I made so many calls to the department to try and get them out to fix the main problem, but they would just come and do a quick job and go. In the meanwhile, our food was going off and many residents were frustrated about this ongoing power issue.” “I got in contact with the ward councillor, Tino Pillay, and explained to him what was going on in the area. Tino informed me that he was aware of the issue and was getting it addressed with the department. He asked us to be patient and promised that the issue would be resolved. He stayed in contact with me and provided feedback about the matter. We are grateful and thankful to Tino for finally getting the matter resolved after a year of living in misery due to the frequent power outages,” said Chetty.
Chetty added: “Another major problem we are experiencing in our area is non-functioning streetlights. We reside near the grounds and many residents are getting robbed daily due to the lack of visibility in the evenings. I’ve also informed Councillor Tino about this and he is working towards getting our streetlights fixed.” Ward Councillor, Tino Pillay, said: “This intermittent electricity problem has been going on for over a year and it was always a quick patch-up job. The real problem was not addressed and after much deliberation, emails and on-site meetings with officials from the electricity department, the department has finally agreed to replace the entire line that feeds Ashvale Close from Bridgevale Road.” “The frequent power outages were mainly due to ageing infrastructure and that was my point of argument to replace the entire line, so a permanent solution could be finalised for the residents,” added Councillor Pillay.
