The Durban North Conservancy through its action arm, Enviro Fixers, planted 40 trees in Bridgevale Park and Virginia Circle in honour of Arbour Month recently.

With the aim of providing an essential green corridor to give little creatures a chance to breed and nest while beautifying the neighbourhood, various stakeholders joined hands in order to make this project a success. “The Durban North Conservancy through its action arm, Enviro Fixers, worked in collaboration with the Park Department, our ward councillor, Shontel de Boer, Marshall Security and Smile and Wave. Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much more,” said Enviro Fixer, Ellysa Entwistle. This project was a wonderful get-together of various stakeholders. The Parks Department donated trees, Smile and Wave were the volunteers as well as the wonderful people from Marshall Security who work with us on litter pick-ups and garden projects,” explained one of the founders of Enviro Fixers, Jane Troughton.

Ward Councillor, Shontel de Boer, who planted a tree at the event, stated that she was incredibly happy to be part of the project and to lend a hand in beautifying the environment. “Trees are important for our environment and people are continually chopping trees down without consulting the Parks Department officials. I’m happy to be involved in this initiative as a way of adding to our natural environment,” she added.
