Residents in the south of Durban have welcomed, with open arms, the assistance offered by TNT Recycling Company and members of the Merebank Civic Committee (MCC) who recently embarked on a clean-up operation in the area.
This comes as illegally-dumped waste continues to plague communities in the south. The recycling company, which is situated on Krishna Rabillal Road, took to the streets from the bottom of Bhuj Road corner all the way through to Hubli Place in Merebank to conduct a clean-up operation, removing illegal dumping sites. Deena Naidoo, Director of TNT Recycling, said they will be keeping a close eye on illegal dumping within the community. “We will ensure that all culprits found guilty will face the strong arm of the law,” Naidoo added.
Residents who have long complained about the filth dumped on the side to the streets, said the clean-up operation was something to be applauded and encouraged by those who will benefit from living in a clean environment. Sabitha Dhanraj, a resident, said: “We are so grateful to all those who came out to clean up our streets. I hope that more residents take a page out of this book and report illegal dumping. Alot of us tend to turn a blind eye to issues like this and I believe that if we all give just a little bit of our time to initiatives such as these, we can all live in a beautiful community.” The MCC has requested that all members of the community come out and support this clean-up initiative and do their bit in creating better living.
