An Utrecht woman told police that Satan made her murder her 10-year-old nephew.

Nora Shaidar Sibiya, who appeared in the Utrecht Magistrate’s Court in connection with Muhamed Sibiya’s murder, is now in custody in a mental home and will undergo psychiatric evaluation. According to Utrech SAPS, when police arrived at the crime scene they found the child with a blue rope around his neck and the other end tied to a steel pole. There were also burn marks on the child’s body. A post-mortem conducted at the Madadeni Mortuary on 12 April, found that Muhamed Sibiya had been strangled with a rope and that the crime scene had been staged. The child’s grandmother, Mary Mdhluli, said she had left the boy with Sibiya and her 7-year-old disabled son. She told Utrecht investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Harry Hayes, that she found the boy dead when she returned home and that the aunt was nowhere to be found.

According to Utrecht SAPS, the aunt had gone to a neighbour’s house where she called Muhamed’s mother who lives in Durban to say that the child had been burnt with hot water and that she should immediately return to be with him. When the grandmother contacted the mother, only then did Muhamed’s mother learn of her son’s death. Nora Sibiya eventually confessed that she had killed the boy by strangling him and claimed that Satan had taken control of her. The accused apparently has a history of mental illness and violence towards her disabled son and the deceased. Investigations are continuing.
