Phoenix police cracked the whip on the drug trade in the area over the past week, yielding four arrests and seizing an assortment of drugs in various busts.

Phoenix SAPS communications officer, Captain Louise Naidoo, said: “Members from the Crime Prevention unit acted on information from Crime Intelligence and proceeded to Paveside Road where they arrested two men both from Malawi. One was found with 300 capsules of heroin and the other with 25 mandrax tablets. Both were charged for possession of drugs. In a Ricemore Place drug-den raid, police found various drugs abandoned including 60 mandrax tablets, 60 heroin capsules, 28 cocaine pieces (white), 25 cocaine (cream) and four bags of crystal meth.

Cpt Naidoo said that in a separate bust, police members with arresting officer Sgt M. Raghoo of B group Crime Prevention, arrested one accused and seized 200 heroin capsules, 89 mandrax tablets and 10 pieces of cocaine.

Meanwhile, arresting officer Sgt Mncwango of B group Crime prevention pounced on the notorious Barnyard drug- den in Rucklen Place.

Captain Naidoo said that police arrested one suspect and recovered 84 pieces of cocaine. “Drug raids will continue as police work diligently to weed out drug dealers and drug lords in the community. By joining forces, police and the community who report information about drugs in the area, even anonymously, can win the war on drugs,” said Captain Naidoo.

Phoenix Community Police Forum chairperson, Umesh Singh, said: “It is good to note that the tide is turning on the drug trade in Phoenix. Arrests made by police are welcomed and police are urged to continue the good work.”
